1. All concrete will stain.
Our concrete is sealed with an eco-friendly industrial grade sealer. The sealer has been tested for the following food staining agents: oil, red wine, mustard, ketchup, curry, turmeric, blueberries, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, tobasco sauce, coffee, and much more. The test allowed the staining agents to penetrate the sealer for 24 hours before be cleaned with a soft sponge, water and dish soap. Marks were visible from turmeric, curry, and tobasco sauce-when cleaned with bleach the stains disappeared. The results from the testing concluded that we have not found any food substance that will create a permanent stain.
2. Concrete will need to be resealed or waxed every few months
Our products are sealed with an industrial grade sealer, not a wax. Therefore no maintenance is required. The sealer will only break down if costic chemicals or bleach is allowed to sit on the sealer for days at a time.
3. Concrete will crack.
Our mix is reinforced with a variety of materials to prevent cracking. If cracking would occur, it happens during the initial stages of fabrication in our shop. In the unlikely case, that a customers counter would develop a structural crack, it is covered under our warranty for 10 years.
4. Concrete counters will damage cabinetry if removed.
Our standard concrete counters are 1 1/2” thick, and weigh about the same as granite per square foot. Our counters are installed in an identical fashion to granite counters and in no way would damage the cabinets beneath them.
5. Concrete Counters will wear unevenly.
After years of testing a variety of sealers, we use the most durable, eco-friendly, easily repairable sealer on the market. This sealer protects against all food stains, uv rays, mildew, water damage, scratching, heat damage and so on. The sealer we apply prevents the counter from wearing unevenly. However if the sealer is damaged it will need to be buffed and re-sealed with our touch up kit to keep the counters protected from wear.
Sealer can be damaged by cutting directly on your counters and placing hot pots directly on the counter. Cutting boards and heat trivets can be inset into your counters to create a beautiful, functional focal point.
6. Concrete is more expensive then all other counter top options like granite and quartz.
This is not always true. It is best to get a full quote when comparing prices, instead of a square foot cost, as other fees may apply. Our prices are usually about the same as granite or slightly lower depending on sales and promotions.
7. Concrete is more porous then granite and other materials.
Again, it comes down to how the counter was sealed. Our sealer penetrates into the concrete and is top coated to prevent any porosity.
8. Concrete countertops are a temporary fad.
Concrete counters are becoming more popular as people learn about all the benefits of concrete. I would agree concrete counters are the cool, hip, fresh, contemporary, and timeless counter choice! A lot of people have felt the same way making them so popular recently. However it is a permanent trend. The way of the future is natural and timeless design, organic, eco-friendly products, with durability and ease of maintenance. Concrete seems to be the best choice! |
