CONCRETE ORIGINALS: Profile > Green Business
We believe the decisions we make as a business have a great impact on our environment and our community. We feel that the future state of the world is our responsibility and we are grateful for the opportunity to help.
Green Products
We buy green materials to build our products. Our counter top and sink molds are made from a lumber composed of recycled 2 liter bottles. We have replaced all our stone aggregate and sand in our mixes with 100% recycled glass from a local recycling center. This prevents the glass from going to the landfills and saves the energy required to quarry stone aggregates. Our mix consists of 70%post consumer recycled glass, 10% post industrial glass, and 20 % virgin cement. We create our products with a very small margin for waste by reusing materials and planning efficiently.
We are now offering eco-friendly resurfacing. Our resurfacer is the eco-friendly alternative to traditional resurfacing systems. It utilizes a recycled pozzolan material that reduces up to 25% portland cement content while increasing strength and durability. Eco-friendly Resurfacing Page - GO>>
Green Work
We are developing a water reclamation system to re-use our water that we would have wasted previously during the polishing stage of our sinks and countertops. Our manufacturing facility is primarily day lit and includes solar tube lighting. Compositing toilets are another feature of our green renovation in our continuous goal to minimize our waste.
We continue to research innovative ways to save energy and work in more sustainable manner. We recycle glass, metal, plastic, and paper.
Our green scrap design program was created in the hope of using every scrap of material. Our fabricators create multiple scrap designs each month out of scrap mold materials, and a little extra concrete. We then agree on the best one and that becomes the green scrap design of the month. All proceeds from our green scrap designs go towards developing our green products and contributions to Enviromentally focused initiatives. We developed our green scrap design program to allow us to continue to eliminate waste in a creative way.
Green Printing
We use Greenerprinter.com for all of our printing. Greenprinter.com uses recycled, processed chlorine-free papers, soy and vegetable based inks and uses 100% wind power.
Green Contributions & Memberships
Green business organizations have been an excellent source of eco- friendly information for our business. We are members of the Green Builders Association of Central PA and the
Susquehanna Sustainable Business Network and the Sustainable Business Network of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
